I have been wondering for quite some time now whether an exercise belt, like the Flex Belt, really works. How is it possible that I can just put on a toning exercise belt and it will tighten, firm, strengthen, and tone my abs without any physical exercise? I have to admit, this definitely intrigued me.
I have compared three of the most popular abdominal belts on the market today. I am considering the Flex Belt; however, I still need to do some research to ensure it is truly the best one. Here’s what I discovered…..

Before I go any further in this ab belt review, I want to make one thing clear about any abdominal toner training system. They do not burn calories, and they do not burn fat. Their main purpose is to tighten, firm, and strengthen your abdominal muscles.
Visit the flex belt official site for more on how that works or continue reading out take on what that means.
In order to achieve ultimate health, you will want to combine exercise with this workout equipment. I know the beauty of this product is that you don’t have to exercise. Believe me, I am all for not having to pull out my workout video.
However, you simply cannot burn the fat without exercise, nor can you improve your cardiovascular health. If you have a lot of weight to lose, I recommend holding off purchasing an abdominal workout belt until you have lost some of the fat, as it will not be able to reach your muscles as easily.
Flex Belt Basics
The Flex Belt uses Electric Muscle Stimulation (EMS) to firm, strengthen, and tone your abdominal muscles. What does this mean? Through the medical-grade GelPads positioned on the ab belt, signals are sent out to the surrounding nerves.
But they don’t stop there. Your nerves will actually branch out beyond where the belt lies sending signals to all of your abdominal muscles. These signals cause them to relax and contract naturally while working them all at the same time.
This abdominal flex training system is considered to be safe. It has been given the CE symbol and has fulfilled the requirements set to be labeled as a medical device (Medical Device Directive 93/42/EEC). It has also been cleared by the FDA.
Are the muscle contractions uncomfortable or do they cause any pain? According to the website and customer reviews, you will feel a mild pulsing sensation followed by a tightening feeling. It is a smooth transition and only lasts for a few seconds before they relax. There are intensity levels that range from 0 to 150 allowing for more intensity as your muscles grow stronger.
Batteries are not required as it comes with a rechargeable battery. You will have to replace the GelPads after 20 to 30 sessions. One set will cost you $14.99 with a discount offer when you buy more. The company recommends purchasing two to three sets with your first order.
You do not have to exercise with this abdominal toning system; however, it is recommended if you have a lot of fat in this area. This toning exercise belt is very discreet. You can wear it underneath your clothes while you go about your daily activities, whether you are watching television, driving your car, or cooking dinner.
Both of these abdominal toning belts use EMS technology. The Contour Belt requires 4 AAA batteries, while the Flex Belt does not require any batteries except the rechargeable one included. The Contour Belt is not discreet, as its remote is bulky and does not fit well under clothing. The Flex Belt is much more discreet because its remote is lightweight and compact making it easier to hide under clothing. According to customer reviews, it appears the Flex Belt is more comfortable than the Contour Ab Belt. The Contour Ab Belt tends to be a little more harsh during contractions.
The Flex Belt has been cleared by the FDA and is backed by 3rd party clinical trials for safety and effectiveness. The company for Contour Ab Belt has stated they were cleared by the FDA; however, according to the Flex Belt website, there was no record on file and did not receive the 510K FDA Clearance Certification. This would concern me if I was considering the Contour Ab Belt.
The Contour Belt tones only up to 100. The Flex Belt tones up to 150. This is important as you would expect to get stronger. For only $20 more, the Flex Belt provides a stronger, higher quality belt toning system that offers more workout equipment routines. In fact, I am not even sure if the Contour Ab Belt has more than one workout program.
Ab belt toner Slendertone is very similar to the Flex Belt. This could be because they are made by the same manufacturer. However, Slendertone does not sell the Flex Belt. Although they are similar in appearance, they do have differences in their functions.
Slendertone only goes up to 99 on the intensity scale, while the Flex Belt goes up to 150. This is significant as your muscles will begin to grow stronger, and you will be able to use the Flex Belt much longer than the Slendertone Belt.
Slendertone only has 7 workout equipment routines, while the Flex Belt has 10. While the Flex Belt is a little more expensive than the Slendertone Belt, it averages to only be about $50 more for a stronger toning exercise belt. You also receive more bonus materials with the Flex Belt.
Basically, it all comes down to whether you want to pay a little more for the extra intensity levels. Both are made of the same high quality materials, are cleared by the FDA, and are backed by 3rd party clinical trials.
I would love to have one of these! I could actually be working my abs while I am watching TV! You really can’t beat that. However, I also have to be practical. Couldn’t I just do a bunch of sit ups in front of the TV? How would I convince my husband to spend money on something I could just do on my own? So, I did a little more digging.
I was excited to find out that traditional crunches cannot reach as deep into the abdominal muscles as a toning exercise belt can. If you look at the Flex Belt website, you can see a thermal imagery of how deep the signals reach.
I have decided to try the Flex Belt mainly because of its higher intensity levels. I am going to combine it with a 90 day body transformation exercise program to burn some calories while I am defining my abs. Of course, I will probably enjoy just sitting there in front of my TV with my Flex Belt wrapped around me after I complete the exercise program! Have you decided which belt toning system you want to try?
